I recently received an email from a bride-to be who inquired about having a Halloween/Costume Ball Theme Wedding but was afraid that it would come off as tacky. 

I can’t stress enough that whatever you want to do for your wedding is what it should be. Don’t worry about what your friends and family think. Just do what you want as this is your day!!

Even Hollywood stars do their own thing such as:

¤ Actress Pamela Anderson getting married in a white bikini and barefoot to Tommy Lee. They also got remarried for fun in silver space suits with friends. (I think she remarried him again???)

¤ Actress Kathy Griffin of ‘Suddenly Susan’ walked down the aisle to the heavy-metal rock song “Sister Christian” and had a ring-finger tattoo as her wedding band. 

There are really no rules on what a wedding should look or feel like. You are only limited by your own creativity and imagination. And the biggest payoff is an event that it is completely representative of  you and your husband.

I just held a White Trash/Trailer Park Birthday Party for my husband – tacky as tacky can get for a party. We decorated our backyard with a clothesline, drove a pick-up into the yard and placed the tackiest ornaments we could find throughout the yard. The food was served in Kentucky Fried Chicken buckets (I am still receiving questions on how to make my Baloney Kraft Dinner Muffins). Our guests had an absolute hilarious time and commented on the fun they had just getting ready for the party. 

Of course, you will always get the guests that don’t want to participate in your theme. Which is perfectly fine. One guest at our White Trash party didn’t dress up and after seeing all the guests arrived decided she wanted to run home and change. If you do decide you want your guests to dress up for your theme, try to have some spare inexpensive outfits ready for those who might change their mind.

Even if your guests aren’t required to dress the part for your wedding – it is incredible how some will automatically just join into the theme. 

For an Urban Safari wedding I helped a bride with, she was amazed at how many guests came dressed in “African” attire. Many people love a change from the norm and absolutely enjoy participating in a one of the kind, unique party event.

So go for it - do whatever feels right for you and your husband. Don’t be limited by traditional standards for a wedding. Let your imagination and creativity come through!
